LED Lights and 12V Cell Phone Charging Mali

Inspired by Jan Chipcase, I put together the following photo montage covering the ever increasing number of cheap Chinese LED lights that are transforming the way people access lighting. There are a lot of amazing NGOs doing work to address the issue of rural household lighting but I think they are at best a fill-gap to an existing market gap. The mass market solution (LED + small rechargeable battery + 1 W solar panel) that will really make a difference will be Chinese and at a price that will encourage extremely fast adoption rates. This is evident from the introduction of LED flashlights in Mali that completely took over the market in less then six months.
I also document the common way most cell phone charging is done in an off-grid environment. While it may not the be the most power efficient or battery safe method it works and is both cheap to the supplier and consumer. Used car batteries you can see are the “power lines” in a lot of African villages that form the basis of distributed power distribution.

Very nice montage!
Just one question:
Where and how people charge those car batteries?
Do they drive from their rural charging post
to the nearest town having electricity (from the grid),
or do they charge them with diesel generators, solar
panels, or what? (Would a small-scale wind generator
be a practical in Mali?)
The problem I encounter here in a Northern European country is
about the same, getting and storing electricity in an off-grid location: Connecting LED-lamps to 12V car batteries, periodically
recharged with a diesel generator. I would do that with Solar
panel instead, if they were a bit more reasonably priced!
What’s the price for those one-watt solar panels (would you have
a photo of one?) in Mali? At least the price of those LED lamps
(I guess those are US-dollars you list?) is outrageously cheap as compared what I have paid here. (Including some Chinese led lamps
officially rated for 12 volts, but which can’t take the
13 volts of fully charged car batteries without going poof!)

Part of me feels like this is a great thing to do. There are so many kids who need loving homes. I just don’t feel like my parents are right for this, though. For starters, they have nowhere to put another kid. They already have an autistic 8 year old who requires a ton of care, and my dad is stretched thin working 2-3 jobs to support them all. My other younger brother is 20, and though he’s part-time in college, he has Asberger’s and isn’t capable of living on his own yet. And there’s a selfish part of me that’s concerned that she’ll now completely ignore me. My fiancee and I have discussed wanting children soon, and I’m worried she’ll have her hands too full to be able to be a grandmother. With the 8-year-old getting older, I had hoped that she’d be able to take more of an active role in my life, if I was to have a child. Am I totally wrong and selfish in this?

This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like ‘Mixview’ that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you’re listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of “neighbors” will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune “Social” is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.

Hands down, Apple’s app store wins by a mile. It’s a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.

The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it’ll do even better in those areas, but for now it’s a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.

Lately I have been doing a lot of directory submissions to build up my backlinks. I write an article and then submit it to the following sites for approval: 1. Ezinearticles.com (constanly crawled by google) 2. Goarticles.com (huge site, lots of traffic) 3. Rysite.com (tweets articles + quick indexing) 4. Articlealley.com (easy to submit to) 5. buzzle.com (has a high PR and is very popular) By submitting articles to those sites, i have recieved a lot of traffic. Especially from rysite.com because i get traffic not only from my article, but they tweet it to a following based on your keyword and as a result I get traffic from twitter as well. Hope that helps!

Hey still havent bagged a deer yet but have spotted two hinds in the distance so at least ive seen 1 now!, was just at a place a couple of weekends ago with alot of fresh sign and a very well used /deep trail down to a small creek in dense bush, the creek isnt open and is all covered in by bush. Was just thinking is it worth waithing somewhere in the bush by the trail to the river and hope to see something or shall i stick to finding clearings and slips and using the binos? I know alot of people think this method is saturated but I very easily made money with this the first time that I tried it. It was a method that gave me that little bit of daily income to get me to realize money can be made. I also thought it was worthy of posting because I showed two of my friends and they both had success with it, so 2/2. Lastly there are always TV shows coming out, and all you gotta do is a little better then the last guy to start getting traffic. You may look at the stats and say its not worth it to you but when it came down to it I probably spent 1 hour to 2 hours total doing work, and totalled just under 100$ last month. I easily could have plugged away a lot harder at this method, but I digress. But enough of that lets start with it:

For me this was literally as easy as copying and pasting into the blog post. It is a good idea to use anchor text like “Watch Seinfeld Season 1 Episode 1″ rather than some URL you leeched off a site. Also make the title of the post something along the lines of watch streaming episodes of your show.

Through out the movie, I was momentarily messed up by most of the same things that have been discussed here, but for the most part, I forgot them as my enjoyment progressed.
